LITTLE ROBBY ROBIN
Marvin L. Caldwell
Little Robby Robin lay nestled in his nest
Too young to fly yet, only days old at best!
His eyes were now open, he could look about
He was hungry now, so he began to shout!
Chirp! Chirp! Chirp! He managed to
squeal
Would anybody hear him? He wanted his next meal.
Then both parents arrived, immediately answering his
call.
Offering him food, so much he couldn't eat it all.
So little Robby Robin, with a belly so big
Went back to sleep, resting his beak upon a twig.

BENNY THE BURRO
Benny was drowsy as the sun begin to rise
Yawning lazily, he focused his eyes
Only days old now, he dare not stray
Young burros make for easy prey
The hot Texas sun beat down relentlessly
No shade in sight, barren as far as one could see
Seems that shade was in short supply
They must move on before the sun got too high
They were headed down a dry stream bed
This was the route to take someone had said
Benny tagged along close to mothers side
Taking extra steps to meet her stride
Then a lizard ran across his path
Benny dusted it with dirt, then he laughed
See what I did trying to get mothers attention
She ignored his prank with no mention
Then everyone stopped, mother sniffed the breeze
"What is it, Mother? Tell me please
Then she looked down nuzzling little Benny
There’s water ahead, stay close to me
Water holes sometimes hide danger
To these possibilities, mother was no stranger
When all was clear they could then drink
His thirst satisfied, Benny needed to catch a
wink!
With his belly full, Benny’s eye lids begin to
drop
Mother noticed this, deciding to stop
Moments later, Benny was awakened by mother
Come son, we have finally found cover!

MOTHER'S DAY
Of all holidays, I always liked the one
That’s celebrated by loving daughters and sons
A day set aside in praising motherhood
For someone special, representing all that’s good
Always as famous as is her apple pie
Seemingly supernatural in a child’s eye
The many things a Mother can be
A wonder of unlimited energy
A mother’s responsibility is of constant care
With no directions, an uneasiness is there
She will endure for the simple reason
To raise her baby, a chore that’s pleasing
Doing feats that only a mother can do
Comforting her infant with a dedication true
Up at all hours surviving on little sleep
She carries on, even though she feels weak
I miss all of the things my mother was too me
The void she left is enormous you see
I shall never forget the hardships mother faced
As stated before, no one can take her place!

THE WAIT IS OVER
The wait is now over, it is done
I once had a brother, now I have none
I was with him when he passed
He went quietly with his last gasp.
He said he was ready, it was time to die
I rushed to his side to say my goodbye
I told him to let go, just follow the light
That we loved him, it would be all right!
He sadly nodded, then with an agonizing moan
He was set free, he was truly home
He wanted it over, now he is free
Once I had a brother, now there's only me!
